Teacher Job Interviews - 3 Common Teacher Interview Questions

If you're looking for a teaching job, especially your first one, the interview process is not unlike that of any job. Of course, there will be questions specific to the teaching field. Here are some common teacher interview questions to review. If you study them and have your answers ready, you will be more comfortable in the interview. And the interviewer will appreciate that you are prepared.
  • Could you tell us about yourself? You can certainly expect this question. It is one of the most common, and one of the most important questions you will be asked. Be prepared with a brief statement about your education and experience. Tell them your certifications. And tell them why you would love this job!
  • Please describe your discipline philosophy. Of course you would adhere to the schools discipline policy. But you can also emphasize that your discipline problems will be minimal because you engage the student in interesting lesson plans. And, you only send students to the office for very serious behavior.
  • How do you communicate with parents? It's important to have an open door policy. That will be expected. You also need to describe other communication plans, such as teacher newsletters and assignment books that parents are required to sign.
It's important that you are prepared to answer the common teacher interview questions. Rehearse your answers before the interview. Be careful, you don't want to sound like your reading your answers off of a cue card. But you don't want a question to stump you. Let your answers flow naturally and show them interviewer you are confident of your knowledge and experience.
