So You Think You Can Teach?

Before you enter the principal's office to interview for that teaching job make sure this is really what you want to do. Think about the impact you will be making on our future leaders, not about the long summer vacations. Yes, having a long summer vacation is nice; however, that doesn't compare to the satisfaction of knowing that you are making a difference in a child's life. So if you think you can teach you must first make it past the interview. An interview that might include questions like the following:
What does it mean to be a teacher?

What specialty do you have as a teacher or what do you think you do really well?

What would you do to increase parent involvement?

What type of students do you like to work with or what type of student do you think you can teach most effectively?

If you were to join our staff what could you bring to our campus that would really make a difference?
Describe the most challenging situation you have encountered in your career and how did you resolve it?

What are the most important things a teacher must accomplish during the first few days of school?

Why would you choose to teach at this school versus any other?

What type of support do you need from your principal?

Is there anything else you would like to share that would help me know you better?

From the first question to the last, the principal is listening for answers that convince them that you are indeed a superstar and that you can and will make a difference in the lives of students.
