I generally write about job search techniques and how to improve your resume. Recently I started a series called Job Interview Tips where I give answers to specific interview questions.
It got me thinking of a more personal kind of interview.
The in-law interview.
It occurred to me that my in-laws have been interviewing me since before my husband and I were married.
It's the interview that never ends. It seems to just go on forever. Some of the wacky and random interview questions I have been asked include:
Are you seriously still breastfeeding?
Do you know what a pedicure is?
Do you mind if we come to visit for a month?
And some of the advice I am given in order to perform best in my role include:
Did you know that the secret to staying young- looking is to keep your weight down?
I have used all the interview tricks I share with my clients that help make a good impression, such as smiling, showing positive enthusiasm for the job and stating I am a team player. But try as I may, I don't know if I will ever get a formal offer from my in-laws.
I am not sure they are convinced I am the right person for the job. Though I have been working hard on the job for some time now... hmmm.
That leads me to my next question: Is there a way to end the never ending interview?
One might think as a career coach I would be able to answer this question for myself.
Though I find myself at a loss on this one.
