Interview Questions - Be Ready!

Here are 15 interview questions job seekers tell us they hear most often. 

Career Advice: Keep answers short, positive and use them to sell yourself to the employer. Start with this list then try to think of other questions that might come up so you are not caught off guard. You may even want to write out your answers down in advance, study them so you know what you are going to say ahead of time. Keep eye to eye contact with the interviewer and answer with confidence. Don't forget to smile!

15 Interview Questions---Be Ready!

1. Why are you in the job market at this time?

2. What did you like most and least about your last job?

3. What are your greatest strengths? (Have examples ready to discuss)

4. What would you consider your greatest weakness? (Keep answer minor in nature)

5. Tell us a few specific things you know and like about our company. (Study their website)

6. Why should we hire you over the others that have applied for this position?

7. What are your short-term and long-term career goals and objectives?

8. Can you tell us about the best and worst boss you have ever worked for and why?

9. If you were the boss at your last job, what are some of the things you would have changed?

10. When we call your references, what do you think they will have to say about you?

11. What does your family think about you making a career move at this time?

12. What salary range are looking at to make a change now? (It helps to know salary range so you can answer this properly. Be reasonable in relationship to your current salary)

13. Is there anything you feel is important we know about your past? (If there is get it out now)

14. What excites you the most to get up and come to work everyday. (Sell it with passion)

15. How well to you get along with others? (Talk about teamwork)

Don't be surprised if you are asked some silly question just to see how you will handle it. This is often done by the interviewer to see how fast you think on your feet. Have some fun with your answer and don't get bogged down in a deep philosophical discussion. This is a trick question. They really are not looking for you to solve the problem of world peace. Keep it light, short and answer with a smile. Example: if you were an animal what would you be?

Lastly, you will be asked if you have any questions for the interviewer. You are seeking employment, a new job or even a new career. Study the employer's website. If you can talk to other people who work there that will give you a great advantage. Craft four insightful questions about the job and company. Tip: Let them bring up any issues about salary, benefits or other money related topics.
